Neumann Instrument Microphones

Neumann instrument microphones provide professional solutions for capturing musical instruments in studio recording and live sound, with different designs for a wide range of acoustic sources.

What Are Neumann Instrument Microphones?

Neumann instrument microphones are microphones suitable for capturing the sound of musical instruments. Depending on the application, this can include studio microphones positioned around an instrument or compact microphone systems mounted directly onto compatible instruments.

Different instruments produce different frequency ranges, dynamics and sound pressure levels, so microphone selection and placement should match the specific source.

Applications for Instrument Microphones

• Drums and percussion: Capture individual drums, cymbals or the overall kit.
• String instruments: Record acoustic strings in studio or live environments.
• Brass and woodwinds: Capture instruments where positioning and directional control are important.
• Piano: Support different microphone techniques for acoustic piano recording.
• Amplified instruments: Capture sound from guitar amplifiers and other instrument amplification systems.

Neumann MCM for Live Instruments

The Neumann Miniature Clip Mic System (MCM) provides a compact solution for close-miking compatible instruments. Its modular mounting approach allows the microphone to be positioned close to the sound source while supporting the movement required during performance.

Choosing a Neumann Instrument Microphone

Consider the instrument, sound pressure level, polar pattern, desired tonal result, recording environment and microphone placement. For clip-on systems, the appropriate mounting solution and connection configuration should also be confirmed.
