In some cases, when updating the firmware of an EW-D device, the process may not complete successfully, causing the unit to appear as “faulty” in the application. This is an integrated safety feature designed to allow recovery in the event of an error during the update. The issue can result from an unstable Bluetooth connection or a power loss during the update process.
EW-DX Firmware 4.0.0 adds enhanced security features for EW-DX devices
Enhanced Security Features:
This update implements a comprehensive security update for our Evolution Wireless Digital EW-DX family. This update not only includes Dante Media Encryption, introducing encryption to enhance the security of media transmission across Dante-enabled networks, it also ensures compliance with the latest EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) requirements, designed to ensure all wireless communication devices meet strict standards for safety, security, and efficient use of the radio spectrum.
Important Notice
- Following the firmware update, a one-time claiming process is required between each device and your control software. This ensures secure pairing and encrypted communication. You will be prompted to claim the device the first time it is accessed after the update.
- No rollback: Existing systems that have been updated cannot be restored to an earlier version.
- The 3rd party media control access for EW-DX EM / EM 2 Dante / EM 4 Dante devices is deactivated by default. You can activate the access by using one of the two protocols:
- Secure: Encrypted protocol SSCv2, requiring a username and password (recommended).
- Legacy: Unsecured control protocol SSCv1, without password protection—use at your own risk (not recommended).
- In order to ensure smooth device discovery and connectivity, please make sure your firewall is configured correctly to allow inbound and outbound traffic on ports 443 and 5353. For more information, please refer to the user manual.
EW-DX Firmware 4.0.0: Features
- Supporting AES 256 Dante Media Encryption for Audio Streams.
- Implementation of Sennheiser Sound Control Version 2 Protocol for all control communication of the device.
- Network Reset for EW-DX EM2 Dante and EW-DX EM4 Dante devices through the menu device settings to reset the custom network settings to their factory settings on the device.
Resolved Known Issues and Optimizations
- Fixed unintended AF Mute on SK/SKM-S for Ch 3 or Ch4 after EM4 Dante reboot during CHG70N interaction despite showing muted states.
- Fixed an issue where changing the manual IP of Dante Address remains in the network.
- Other bug fixes and optimizations.
Know Issues
After a migration update, devices may not appear automatically in the control application. This can occur due to discovery limitations in certain network environments with complex infrastructures. In this case you have to actively refresh the device list within the application software once.
The EW-DX firmware update requires the Sennheiser Control Cockpit (SCC) software, Sennheiser Smart Assist App (SAA) or the Sennheiser Wireless Systems Manager (WSM) software.
