FAQ Neutrik Material and Plating

Original Neutrik product or copy? The hologram technology sheds light on it.

Original Neutrik product or copy? Using a new hologram technology, original and authentic Neutrik products can now be easily distinguished from lesser quality copies. Everybody who selects Neutrik products decides on superior quality, maximum functionality and the highest reliability. Unfortunately cheap quality, illegal product copies appear on the market with no end in sight. Besides legal measures which Neutrik takes against the counterfeiters, Neutrik is taking a further step in innovation to clearly distinguish its products from copies.
Together with the company U-NICA security systems, Neutrik developed a unique hologram technology (Intragram™). The hologram in the form of the Neutrik logo and the Neutrik writing can now be found on selected Neutrik products. Thus users can easily identify if they are using an original Neutrik product in.
Holograms are not new technology, – but the Intragram™ hologram process is. Injection moulded plastic products can now be protected permanently by this integrated security feature. Conventional holograms on plastic are simply put on the surface as a sticker. The patented Intragram™ technology is integrated directly into the injection molding die and is intrinsically tied to the original production process. Due to the high complexity of the tooling insert the counterfeit protection is permanently secured. Neutrik original products can be easily verified by the characteristic colour change of the Intragram™ hologram and is visible to the naked eye.
Our simple wish is to provide our customers with maximum product security. Therefore we will work on raising the user's awareness of the risks and pitfalls which can occur by the use of inferior product copies.
Products which are labelled with the Intragram™ technology are XLR XX-, EMC-, RX-, -HE, 14- and Crimp series, convertCON, crystalCON as well as speakON NL4MP- and NL4FC series, Combo A series and powerCON 20A series.

Are the plastics, which you use for inserts etc., free of halogen?

Yes, except XLR A- and B-series, which offer UL94V-0 material (incl. halogen).

Does tarnishing of silver contacts affect the contact resistance?

Silver has the characteristic to tarnish. This gray looking film is just an optical effect and does not affect the contact resistance or the ability of the contact to take the solder. Do black chrome shells have grounding disadvantages?

The contact resistance of chromium plated (black chrome) shells is slightly higher than the resistance of nickel-plated shells. That’s usually no problem for all audio transmissions. Regarding EMI at HF transmissions we recommend to use nickel plated cable connectors in combination with chassis connectors with EMI optimized ground contacts.
