Neumann ADAT Audio Interfaces
Neumann ADAT audio interfaces support multichannel digital audio connectivity for professional recording, studio integration and expanded input and output workflows.
What Is ADAT on an Audio Interface?
ADAT is a digital audio format commonly used to transfer multiple channels of audio between compatible studio devices through an optical connection. On an audio interface, ADAT connectivity can be used to integrate additional digital equipment and expand a studio system.
Unlike USB or Thunderbolt, ADAT is not primarily a computer connection protocol. It is designed for digital audio transfer between compatible audio devices.
Applications of ADAT Connectivity
- I/O expansion: Add compatible external equipment to increase the available digital input or output channels.
- Multichannel recording: Transfer multiple digital audio channels within a recording setup.
- Studio integration: Connect compatible interfaces, converters and other ADAT-equipped equipment.
- Digital workflows: Transfer audio digitally between compatible studio devices.
ADAT Channel Count and Sample Rate
Standard ADAT Optical can carry up to eight channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz. At higher sample rates, supported systems may use S/MUX, which reduces the number of channels available through each optical connection.
Choosing an ADAT Audio Interface
Consider the required channel count, sample rate, available ADAT inputs and outputs, other analog and digital connections, and compatibility with existing studio equipment. Digital devices must also be configured with compatible sample-rate and clock settings.
