Behringer BMX - Classic Hybrid Sampling Drum Machine
The Behringer BMX is a hybrid sampling drum machine featuring an authentic 8-bit/12-bit sampling engine, 117 built-in drum sounds and a 64-step sequencer. Inspired by the character of classic drum machines, it combines sample recording, sound-shaping tools and hands-on performance controls for electronic music production.
Classic Drum Machine Sound with 8-bit/12-bit Sampling
The BMX combines the distinctive sonic character of vintage sampling drum machines with modern sequencing functions. Its sound engine uses 8-bit/12-bit sampling technology, supported by eight digital-to-analog converters (DACs) with variable sample rates.
With 117 built-in drum sounds and eight drum voices, the BMX provides a range of sounds for programming electronic rhythms, including styles influenced by classic Hip-Hop and electronic music.
Record and Store Custom Samples
The Behringer BMX features a line input for recording audio from external sources. Users can capture and store their own samples, expanding the available sound library beyond the 117 factory drum sounds.
This sampling functionality allows musicians and producers to incorporate original sounds into their drum patterns and develop customized rhythm arrangements.
64-Step Sequencer with 192 Patterns and 8 Songs
The BMX features a 64-step sequencer with memory for up to 192 patterns and eight songs. Users can program drum sequences, organize patterns and arrange complete compositions directly on the device.
Continuously variable SWING control allows the rhythmic timing to be adjusted, creating different groove characteristics. Patterns can also be changed during playback, providing additional flexibility for live performance.
WAVE Designer with Attack and Sustain Controls
The integrated WAVE Designer provides individual attack and sustain controls that can be applied to drum voices.
Attack adjustment changes the initial characteristics of a sound, while sustain adjustment modifies its duration and decay behavior. These controls allow users to shape the response of individual drum sounds within their patterns.
Dual-Mode Low-Pass and High-Pass Filter
The BMX includes a dual-mode filter that switches between Low-Pass Filter (LPF) and High-Pass Filter (HPF) operation.
Adjustable cutoff frequency and resonance controls provide additional sound-shaping options. Filter sweeps can be recorded directly into the sequencer and further adjusted using the step editor, supporting dynamic changes throughout a drum pattern.
Flexible Parameter Chaining and Rhythm Control
The BMX features Parameter Chaining, allowing selected parameters to operate globally or change with individual songs and patterns.
Supported parameters include tempo, SWING, flam, probability, independent track mute and solo functions, FX bus assignments, filter modes and filter sweeps.
These controls give users additional flexibility when creating rhythmic variations and making real-time adjustments during production or performance.
Hands-On Interface with 24 Knobs, 8 Faders and 70 Buttons
The Behringer BMX features a dedicated control surface with 24 knobs, eight faders and 70 buttons.
This arrangement provides direct access to sequencing, sound editing and performance functions, allowing users to create and modify patterns without relying exclusively on computer-based controls.
Advanced Live Performance Functions
The BMX includes Step Repeat, Note Repeat, Real-Time Triggering and Live Step Overdub functions for creating rhythmic variations during playback.
Users can enter recording mode while remaining in pattern mode, build song structures in real time and return to playback without interrupting the performance.
Auto Fill provides additional rhythmic variations, while the ability to cue the next song from memory supports continuous live sets.
Eight Independent Analog Outputs
The BMX provides eight independent analog outputs for routing drum signals to external audio equipment.
These outputs allow users to process individual drum signals through external audio processors or record separate drum channels in a multitrack recording setup.
Three Trigger Outputs for External Equipment
Three dedicated trigger outputs allow the BMX to control compatible external synthesizers and hardware sequencers.
These connections expand the possibilities for integrating the BMX into hardware-based electronic music systems without requiring a digital audio workstation.
USB MIDI and External Clock Synchronization
The BMX provides USB connectivity for MIDI triggering and synchronization with compatible digital audio workstation software.
It also features MIDI In, Out and Thru connections through USB and five-pin MIDI ports. Clock send and receive functions support synchronization with external music equipment.
These connectivity options allow the BMX to operate within both computer-based production environments and standalone hardware setups.
