Neumann has released RIME 1.5, an update to its Reference Immersive Monitoring Environment software designed for immersive audio monitoring through headphones. The new version introduces improved bass response, greater transient accuracy, 3DOF head tracking and additional multichannel formats. It also expands monitoring controls and introduces a standalone macOS application, offering greater flexibility for professional audio production workflows.

RIME is an immersive monitoring solution developed specifically for Neumann NDH 20 and NDH 30 headphones. It recreates the listening experience of a reference monitoring room, allowing producers and engineers to work with surround and immersive formats such as Dolby Atmos.
Using AMBEO virtual acoustics algorithms and binaural measurements captured with the Neumann KU 100, RIME provides a three-dimensional monitoring environment tailored to Neumann Studio Headphones.
What's New in RIME 1.5?
The update introduces improvements in audio accuracy, spatial monitoring and workflow efficiency:
- Deeper bass response for all virtual speakers except subwoofers.
- Improved transient accuracy for more precise dynamic reproduction.
- 3DOF head tracking, supporting horizontal and vertical head movements.
- Additional support for 5.1 and 7.1.2 audio formats.
- Extended ambience adjustment for greater control over spatial depth.
- Peak-aligned output to prevent signal levels from exceeding 0 dBFS.
- Loudness-matched bypass for comparing binaural and downmixed signals.
- Quick solo/mute controls for horizontal and height channels.
RIME 1.5 also introduces a standalone version for macOS, allowing users to operate the software without launching a DAW.
Compatibility and Availability
RIME supports VST3, AU and AAX plug-in formats on macOS and Windows. Compatible DAWs include Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper, Cubase, Nuendo and Pyramix.
According to Neumann's November 6, 2025 announcement, existing RIME users receive version 1.5 as a free update. The announced price for a new licence was $99.95.
