opticalCON connectors are designed for INDOOR/OUTDOOR applications under harsh environments. Results from lifetime tests1 indicate a mating cycle of 500 insertion/withdrawals of opticalCON cable connectors without significant performance reduction (insertion and optical return loss). In addition, using an advanced lifetime test, after 24 hours in a conditioned cabinet, it provides 5'000 mating cycles without signigicant mechanical degradation (for detailed information, see opticalCON technical paper).
Due to customer experiences, we Neutrik AG, recommends to maintenance opticalCON products (fiber cable, chassis connectors, couplers, etc.) in a 6 Month interval2.
1…lifetime test carried out under lab conditions
2…recommendation valid for broadcast applications.
Can I buy opticalCON connectors without additional training?
As always it is Neutrik's highest interest to keep the quality level, because of this it is required to attend a certified Neutrik opticalCON field assembly training. The successful completion entitles to purchase opticalCON cable connectors as well as the necessary equipment.

In case of a defective connector, is there a way to repair my cable in the field?
What are typical Insertion and Return Loss values for opticalCON DUO, QUAD and MTP connections?
Incorporating the highest standards in fiber optic termination, our cable assemblies exhibit the following Insertion and Return Loss values:
Connector |
Insertion Loss [dB] per connection |
Optical Return Loss [dB] per connection |
DUO / QUAD
|
< 0.40 (single-mode PC)
< 0.45 (multimode PC) |
> 50
> 50 |
MTP
|
< 0.80 (single-mode APC)
< 0.80 (multimode (PC) |
> 60
> 50 |
Can I use my own drum on opticalCON cables?
When re-coiling opticalCON cables, it is essential to observe the minimum coiling diameter. Undercutting the required minimum diameter significanly reduces the lifetime and performance of the fibre optic cable.
ATTENTION
Make sure that the dimension of the drum used corresponds to the bending radius of the cable.
