FAQ speakON

Is the speakON STX series compatible to standard speakONs?

All STX cable and chassis connectors are fully backwards compatible to conventional speakON connectors. In combination with with other speakONs the connection is not weatherproof.

Where can I obtain Faston tabs to wire speakON chassis connectors?

There are two Faston versions:
For the standard speakON series (except NL4MP-UC):
4.8 x 0.5 Fastons, just order NLFASTON
An isolated Faston can be ordered eg. at Tyco part # 9-160477-2
For the speakON STX series and NL4MP-UC:
6.3 x 0.8 mm Fastons, which can be ordered e.g. at Tyco part # 41829

How do I wire my cable onto my speakON?

The wiring of speakON connectors depends on the amplifier and/or loudspeaker system. Please see description below.

Which screws/rivets can I use for fastening of chassis connectors?

SCREWS

Screws for chassis connectors depend on panel material and panel thickness. We suggest the following:
Metal panel (Steel, Aluminum, Zinc)
Flat head thread forming screws, Pozidriv, DIN 7500 M, zinc plated, M3 x length (drilled hole ~ 3.1 mm)
Flat head metric machine screws, Pozidriv, DIN 965A, zinc plated, M3 x length (thread M3)
Plastic Panels
PT-flat head screws, WN 1413, zinc plated, KA30 x length (depends on material, ~ 2.4 mm)
For various chassis mount versions we offer correspondig screws. (A-Screw-1-8, B-Screw-1-8, E-Screw-1-12)

RIVETS

It is possible to use any aluminum 1/8'' or 3.2 mm 90° countersunk blind rivet. We suggest drilling a hole diameter of 3.3mm for the panel. It is possible to use pneumatic, electrical or hand riveting tools.

Does Neutrik offer a male cable connector for extension cables?

Yes, Neutrik offers the NLT4MX (speakON STX Series). Since all chassis connectors (in amplifiers or loudspeakers) are currently male connectors, a cable with a female connector on one end and a male connector on the other can only be used as an extension cables.

What is BI-AMP?

BI-AMP means the split of the frequency range to a low and high frequency. Therefore you need a 4-pole-cable and a 4-pole-speakON to transmit the 2 signals to the loudspeaker.

What is a speakON connector and what is it used for used for?

The speakON is a loudspeaker connector which is designed for highest mechanical and electrical loads and fulfil all safety standards. They are used to transmit high currents which occur for example at amplifier - loudspeakers lines. Due to speakON's mating mechanism arcing is prevented and electric shocks can not happen. The speakON connectors are UL-recognized and CSA-listed.
Attention: speakON is NOT to be used as an AC mains or power supply connector!
